Vinetrade is a new venture I co-founded and invested in. It’s a fine wine trading platform, which means that people can use it to buy and sell cases of expensive wine for investment or consumption purposes. It also has a portfolio management dashboard to see how your investments are performing.
The iPhone app is an early version with a cut down feature set designed to enable users to check up on their portfolio, view their watchlist and browse the available cases of wine for purchase.
In addition to development of the iPhone app, as CTO of the company I was responsible for prototyping early versions of the rails based website, in particular designing a solid object model to allow the high value transactions to take place, manage portfolios of wine and developing an API to interface with the iPhone app and future additional platforms.
More recently we’ve been able to hire a more experienced (and awesome!) rails dev to take over the development of the rails site and API, allowing me to concentrate on the iPhone client, product planning and strategy along with the CEO, James Maskell.
Things are still very early for the company. We have a long way to go to achieve our goal of truly disrupting the fine wine industry around the world. The product is being updated with new features and better design on a daily basis, and we expect it will look very different in a couple of months.
