Hi guys, I just called HP customer services and they offered to fix my laptop for free! they said that they knew the issue with the DV2000 motherboards and that it would cost nothing for me to have repaired.

I suggest you ask for the same thing!

My dv2000t has just suffered the same fate, but HP won’t repair it free of charge as it doesn’t have one of the product numbers listed under the limited warranty. Mine is RM668AV. If you find yourself in the same situation then leave a post on the HP forum website and heopefully HP will extend warranty coverage -

I have the same problem with my DV2123tx that I bought in Singapore last year but HP Singapore won’t repair it free of charge because 1 year warranty expired.1 year 5 months my DV2123tx had 3 beeps problem and I spent S$500 for repair. Now my DV2123tx has the same problem again and HP won’t repair it for free even I said it was a defect. They said I must pay around S$500 first and they will do repairing for me.With S$1000 I can buy another new notebook.I am very dissapointed with HP Singapore. I am tired to debate with them. They said it’s old notebook and it’s better buying a new notebook. But how come I only use that notebook not until 2 years.I bought my DV2123tx for S$3000, it’s expensive.I thought I can use my notebook for along time. This is my first time buying HP notebook.Usually I buy Toshiba notebook.I had experienced with factory defect from ASUS desktop but they changed my motherboard with the new model because my previous model was discontinued.

actually your mainboard is not faulty..unless you unable to ON your laptop already..try to ON again and again even you heard the beep, by chance, you will be able to get display…what happened is the GPU (NVIDIA graphics chip) getting loose because of the heat and cold of your laptop..so the contact is not good…my laptop (DV2125TX) also encounter the same problem..i strip to the mainboard..add 2mm of copper tape replacing the blue sponge and add some thermal paste..and not the possibility of switch ON my laptop is very high..i will get beep once in a while..but now i able to ON my laptop..

some people says..baked your mainboard in the oven, and blow your GPU with hot air before doing this..yo can google in the net for ideas..

dont change your mainboard as HP have this design issue..you will face the same problem..unless you request HP to replace with new design instead..

hope this helps..

The towel method really works for HP pavillion DV2000. It is really a hardware fault of HP and Nvidia.

Bought DV2121TX Feb2008 in Singapore,
Pdt No: RL366PA
Intel core 2 duo T5600 1.83ghz
NvidiaGeforece Go7200 up to 128mb turboCache Video memory
MS Windows @ XP Media Center Edition 2005

Experienced vanishing icons, frequent hangs (within 1st week of purchase),always cant boot into windows (successful boot ups occur after several days of rest!), BSODs, multi-media keys& web-cam &dvd –drive stopped working within 12 mths after purchase.

HP claimed MS OS software conflicts,
hard disk failure(hdd was most probably fried) and wasted my time on OS re-installs, bios flashes etc.

Neither faulty notebook design (overheating) nor faulty nvidia gpu was ever once brought up !

Hp eventually recommended motherboard replacement; presumably a new/recycled but SAME BADLY DESIGNED,OVERHEATING! motherboard with SAME DEFECTIVE nvidia gpu ! at my expense of course as my 1 year limited warranty has expired. No way! From what I read online, theres no fix for this lemon!

I would never buy HP products ever again !

i’m having the same prob with the dv2125tx model. bought it on 14/12/2006. 1st spoiled on 1/11/08…fix by changing some part…cost me RM400, work for a month more, spoil again…sent to fix again, waitting for 2months, today go pick it up, but what happen is d stupid center say cant fix, if really fix up is by changing the whole motherboard for RM1500…this killing me!!! i bought the comp with RM5200. Use for 2years less then say bye bye!!? Actually how long is the motherboard warranty lifetime? Can this be fix up anyway besides changing the MB?
Is HP bussiness model will have this problem too? coz i have a business model for HP brand too, cost me RM6k++. Just use it less than 1 year, i’m very worried about it now..

My DV2000T CTO had the same problem in Sep 2008 sent it in for the enhanced warranty which I believe is a “Band Aid” fix as it will happen again because they put the same type MOBO and NVIDIA GO FORCE 7200. Lo and behold comes May 2009 it happens again three beeps and blank screen. I did the google search and did the wrap in the towel thing until I found a more permanent solution. Well this weekend I did, got a copy of the Laptop service guide opened it up. Since it was not dead all the way, I was able to just change the cheap blue thermal pad to an better one, Artic Silver 5. Turned it on still three beeps but after wrapping it with a towel again and turning it on, now it just come up without wrapping it. I finally got a permanent fix. If your MOBO is dead you might be able to revive with stripping the MOBO all the way and baking to 80 degress for 24 hours or take the MOBO to a computer repair and tell them to re-flow it for you. It might cost but not as much as what HP is asking and the pain you have to go through. Hope this helps someone…
